When Bariatric Surgery Is the First Step

It’s happened to so many people you know – it may have even happened to you. Somehow, over the years, the weight kept creeping up, despite all efforts to lose it. Even when people lost weight, they’d gain it all back – and more. They tried every diet on the planet, but it was always hard to semi-starve themselves. They’d crave the foods they really liked, and they couldn’t hold on more than a few weeks trying to eat teensy portions of ultra-healthy meals. Their entire lives became a battle against the bulges, yo-yo’ing up and up, until finally, the news was official: They were declared medically obese.

Such is the story for millions of Americans.  The statistics are daunting: Two-thirds of Americans are either overweight or obese. Overweight is defined as a BMI (body mass index) of 25-29.9, and obesity as a BMI of 30 or more. This means that an average-height adult (say, 5’7”) is overweight at 160 lbs., and obese at 200 lbs. Look around – those measurements describe most of the adults you see.

Overweight and obesity is so unhealthy that the World Health Organization started blowing the whistle on the issue as early as 20 years ago. The reason? Rates of NCOs (non-communicable diseases) such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, hypertension, stroke, and even certain forms of cancer were on the rise, and all of these diseases are more prevalent among the heavier-set population.

That’s where Rockaway Care Center comes in. We offer our Bariatric Program for those needing immediate help with obesity in the form of surgery – for example, with gastric bypass surgery. We offer expert post-operative care and recovery in a dedicated department.  You’ll not only receive physician, nursing, and other care for surgery recovery, you’ll be in a special ward with people who’ve experienced the same life challenges that you have.

In addition, Rockaway Care Center offers advice on how to receive ongoing counseling for long-term prevention of overweight and obesity. We recommend effective dieticians, nutritionists, and exercise trainers to get you back on track towards a healthy weight. And we don’t believe in crash diets nor over-exercising. We believe everyone can find a simple way to eat healthily and perform regular exercise without overdoing it. And to boot, we believe you can have your cake and eat it too – just in moderation. Of course you’ve seen thin people eating cake – they just eat one piece, and they balance it with the rest of their daily calories – even if they do so subconsciously.  You, too, can learn this balance.

The bariatric surgery is a first push to get you closer to where you need to be – your window toward a lifestyle change that will have you feeling energized due to solid nutrition and enough exercise. And best of all, you’ll feel better about yourself – not only because you’ll look better, but because you’re doing something about your changing your health for the better. Rockaway Care Center is here to help you start your new life – a life that will inspire others to do the same. So many Americans need this push,  and Rockaway Care Center is glad to assist you in your journey.
